Is forex trading halal?

Two currencies may be exchanged at any rate as long as both sides are delivered on the spot, and you may profit from rate changes that way. Retail forex trading is usually the opposite: the broker lends you margin, charges interest as overnight swaps, and positions are closed for the difference rather than delivered.

Is a swap-free Islamic forex account halal?

Removing the swap fee does not fix the loan: the broker still lends you money to trade and profits from it, and the currencies are never truly exchanged. A swap-free account with no leverage and real settlement is, in substance, ordinary exchange.

Is buying foreign currency and holding it to profit from the rate halal?

Yes. You own the currency, it was delivered on the spot, and you may sell it later at any rate.

Does the T+2 settlement in currency markets count as “on the spot”?

The normal one- or two-day settlement is treated as on the spot by AAOIFI, because it is the market’s customary delivery. A rate fixed for delivery weeks later is not.

Buying and holding a coin with your own money is a separate question that scholars still debate. Leveraged crypto trading, funding fees and futures fall under the same objections as leveraged forex.
